Diwali (or Deepavali) is the largest of the Hindu festivals and will officially be celebrated next week here in Malaysia. It is known as the "festival of lights" and there are decorations, fireworks and celebrations in the works all around KL...Indians go all out! My favorite part of the celebration is the "rangoli". These colorful floor designs are one of the most popular of Indian arts and seeing them is such a sweet reminder of the rangoli we would see decorate walls and floors of homes in India. They are known as a sign of welcome and they will be all over the place in the next couple weeks!
The kids and I even saw a few downtown this morning as we visited the
Petrosains Discovery Center. We even watched two Indian women complete a rangoli at the Bangsar train station on the way home. Addie was enthralled!
