Hari Raya

It is Hari Raya today -- a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan (and a month of fasting). Our friend, David Poon, invited us to attend an open house held by the King and Queen of Malaysia at their palace. It is an open-invite to the public and the only time of the year that the palace grounds allow visitors. So we went...waited in a very long and hot queue...and finally shook hands with the King and Queen! The royal couple even gave Addie and Abe "ampung" (gift) envelopes with a 5 Ringgit note inside. They also had a massive buffet tent set up for visitors and gave everyone a gift box of cookies. It was impressive and definitely a treat. Here are a few pictures I was able to snap....

Waiting in line...

The best shot I could get of the royal couple...after shaking their hands....

The kids with their ampung money...

Addie with her cookie box (with pictures of the king and queen )...

And Jonathan being interviewed by a TV station (probably because he was one of the only westerners at the party?!) :)

Back outside in front of the palace gate...
