And on the way to the Sanctuary, our driver made an impromptu stop at Deerland, a small neighboring zoo, where we were able to hold a python and get our picture taken with a bear (only in Asia would they be so relaxed with caged, dangerous animals). It was a pretty cool day -- and required some pretty serious disinfecting when we returned home!

Elephant Sanctuary
Today we visited Kualah Gandah Elephant Sanctuary with my parents and the kids. It's a place dedicated to saving, relocating and caring for the endangered Malaysian elephants and allows serious hands-on interaction with the elephants there...we even got to ride one! Here are some pictures:

That is a real bear? And you are in the cage with it? WOW! Looks like you are all experiencing some AMAZING things!!
I don't think I would be as calm as you all seem to be! I cannot wait to hear all about these adventures!
wow ... great pics! i can't believe you are with that bear! and dad and the snake ... impressive!
We will feed the bear if you bring him home, but not the snake...leave him there!!
